Cosmetic dentistry is incorporated into much of what we do here because it involves giving people a smile that they want to have; not only focusing on the function of the teeth.
In my definition of cosmetic dentistry, I include the need to lay down a foundation of having healthy gums, and healthy enamel.
To create a pleasing smile can mean replacing missing teeth with a dental bridge or an implant covered by a crown. It can mean tooth reshaping, porcelain veneers, gum lift or gum grafts, bleaching, inlays and outlays, partials or dentures.
Cosmetic dentistry has been around now for about 25 years.
When people look at other people, the first thing that they look at, according to psychologists, is their eyes. This is what babies do when they look at their mom and distinguish their mom from other people. The next thing they look at is the smile. So the smile is important for facial recognition. A pleasing smile is important.
